“The Story of Mary Molly the Guacamole And Other Nonsense Poems” is a beautiful illustrated book of strange, rhyming nonsense verse in the vein of Edward Lear and Lewis Carroll. The stories herein are sure to delight and appall readers of all ages. Romance! Adventure! Cross-Species Love Affairs! This collection contains “The Story of Mary Molly the Guacamole,” “The Story of Omega’s Rampage,” “The Story of the Long Distance Relationship,” “The Story of Barbara Ann and Barbara Allen,” “The Story of the Lizard Wizard of North Northumberland,” and “The Story of Meghan & the Mini Megatherium.” With more than thirty original full-color illustrations by Grainne Proinseas and Maymo Mary.
Another addition to our burgeoning genre of illuminated digital sheet music - "What Mary Noticed" from The Manna Sustains, an Epic Murder-Ballad Song-Cycle by The Manna Tease. This will eventually be a whole illustrated songbook illuminated by Grainne Proinseas, & we'll be dropping samples of individual songs as Scribd documents over the next few weeks.
Please download, print, and play around with as you wish. I'm deliberately keeping the score pretty vague, just the melody and chord progression, with the occasional instrumental melody. Additional verses can differ slightly in melody & syncopation, &c. Here's us singing "Young Manasseh's Stains" live:
What we have here is a sketch by Miss Minnie Molly Mary for a story about a girl named Omega who lives on the moon (part of our top secret illustrated nonsense poetry project.) The final art evolved far away from these sketches, but I stole this early one away. A brief excerpt from the canto:
On the moon, she was the boredest girl you’d ever seen. Omega & Josephine would spend all day playing cribbage. Lima beans & moon greens were their only cuisine.
The Benevolent Otherhood is a secret writing society in Oakland and Berkeley, California. Founded in 1899, its current members include Alisa Dodge, Cathlin Goulding, Corinna Lefkowitz, Pepper Luboff, and S. Sandrigon.
Cover art is by Mario Zamarripa. Other illuminations by Olaf Mary, Chris Rae, & Minnie Molly Mary.
We had our zine release party Monday night at Mama Buzz in Oakland, to a crowd hungry for new poetry. We also had musical guests: Stas Feldman, members of the Avatar ensemble, & Friends Around the Campfire. A limited 50 physical copies were made, so I'm proud to present a free digital version:
And now (after several unreadable copies with bad fonts) I present an illuminated digital book for the nonsense poem Consideration Song. The photographs were taken by Miss Minnie Molly Mary at the Belgum Sanitarium in the hills above Richmond, California, and the cover photo was photoshopped by my brother.
With these scribd books, I recommend F11 to fullscreen your browser, and then fullscreening the scribd document (there's a button). The original text of the poem was published here. My epic 163-pg 2009 illuminated poetry book Prophecy & Doggerel has been up for sale for $2.15 at scribd, after being on the market for twelve months, you can still be the first person to ever buy it!
And here's another short illuminated nonsense poetry book: the poem "Sacred Massacre" (originally posted here) with panoramic photos taken by Miss Minnie Molly Mary. More books on scribd. I'm excited to see how these scribd books will look on tablet reading-devices like the iPad, &c. I was worried my landscape-shaped poetry books wouldn't look good on the Kindle, but damn! I'm betting they're going to rock the iPad.
I've just used some of Cosmo Wernicky's drawings to illuminate my poem "Never on Sunday Song", for a spicy new digital book on scribd. The original poem was posted here.
Good Morning, again. Here is the fifth illumination for the five-part series of poems Five Prayers, "Emanation Prayer". The original text of this poem was posted here. Click on the images to read the poetry full screen. When we're all done, the entire thing will be included in the updated version of Prophecy & Doggerel, as well as get its own Scribd book! Others of this 'Prayer' poetry, including the illuminations for the Seven Prayers, can be found if you peruse around itwaslost's Department of Prayers. I hope everything's going okay on your end as well.
The fourth illumination of the Five Prayers, "Evacuate the Species", the text of which was originally posted here. Click on the images to read the poetry full screen. When we're all done, the entire thing will be included in the updated version of Prophecy & Doggerel, as well as get its own $1 Scribd book! Others of this 'Prayer' poetry, including the illuminations for the Seven Prayers, can be found if you peruse around itwaslost's Department of Prayers. Thank you & Gesundheit!
Welcome back to our Five Prayers poetry series illuminations. The original text for this poem was here. More from our Department of Prayers. Click on those images to read them larger. The "Five Prayers" will all be included in Prophecy & Doggerel anon. And with mammals drink lilac wine...
Our illuminations for Five Prayers is almost complete, & it was be up as a Scribd book soon. Here's the first poem, "Emancipation Prayer" - the original text, written near Varna, was posted here. All of the prayer poems, including the illuminations for the first series, Seven Prayers, are here. (If it's too small to read, try clicking on the image.)
Those five prayer poems are a set, which together will form a short illuminated book called Five Prayers. We're working on that a bit today. There's also a palinode at the end:
Palinode to the Five Prayers
The sun has been set free, Then the poor are fed with honey cream, And I will no longer smoke my hubbly-bubbly solitarily, Like a pocket of railway steam, The sun & me, booty-hunters on a merry sea.
The illuminated poetry book on Scribd is undergoing some subtle adjustments, but still no endnotes. Believe you me, you'll be the first to know. I'm still having trouble with some of the pictures (some of them aren't supposed to have that annoying gray border.) It's been expanded to include Remember Artie Wongay. You could be the first costumer to pay $2.15 for the complete version. E-mail me if you want the whole thing for free. (Push F11 for fullscreen, then toggle to scibd's fullscreen - beautiful!)
Years in the making... 150 pages... over fifteen hundred really good words (including "proboscis" & "stalactickle")... With over a hundred original illustrations by Grainne Proinseas, Olaf Mary Mohammad, & James Quill... I am proud to publish - ONLINE only - on scribd.com PROPHECY & DOGGEREL All the poetry published on the website www.itwaslost.org over the past three years, in one colorful poetry book - Nonsense, doggerel, prophecy, songs & a few long poems. After long consideration, I have decided to SELL this book for $2.15, altho I'm making a bit of it visible for free. I realize it is quixotic to dream of making any money off a non-physical collection of weird & sometimes dense nonsense verse, BUT I reckon I'm offering a pretty good product which we put a lot of work into. You could e-mail me (o [[at]]itwaslost .org) for a trial copy. Please support the nonsense vanity press! And a lot of the poetry is still on www.itwaslost.org here or there, just not with the classy layout & fancy illuminations, which is well worth two dollars & fifteen cents. Maybe convince a wealthy friend to purchase the digital edition from scribd, curl up with a cup of hot cocoa & your uncle's color printer, & print a nice double-sided physical copy. I believe in physical books. But this one will doubtful never be published as one. Meanwhile, a new hardcover copy of Barbara Walters' Audition: A Memoir sells for $29.95, & she doesn't do things like rhyme "cuddle" with "butthole." Tell your friends & loved ones! Prophecy & Doggerel is published.
(I recommend, if you're in firefox, clicking F11 to full-screen the browser, then clicking on the full-screen toggle on the upper-right-hand corner of the scribd box.)
Finally! The first three chapters of the Classic Epic Nonsense Doggerel Saga of Companionship - BROM-ILIAD BROMANCE - Is now on Scribd.com. I've been putting up these SAMPLER illuminated poetry books on the vanity self-publishing pdf website Scribd, as tests & previews of a larger book Prophecy & Doggerel, due to be up sometime this summer. Look for it! More at the itwaslost Scribd page. There's a couple, also as an experiment, that are actually for sale...
This looks better if you full-screen it - there's a toggle in the upper-right-hand corner. (& in Firefox browser, F11, or in the view menu, makes the window fullscreen.)
I've uploaded a third short illuminated poetry pdf-book to Scribd.com. Saga of Jenny is a quasi-narrative two-part, fourteen-stanza nonsense rhyming poem. This is, like, one of my favorite poems. It was originally published on this weblog HERE, but this illuminated pdf has a much more beautiful layout. I'm working on a larger collection of these rhyming poems from the last few years, Prophecy & Doggerel, but since it won't be available for awhile, I'm putting up these samplers - Saga of Jenny, for instance, will be spread across fewer pages in the full book, but look more or less like this. Toggle to full-screen with the little button on the upper-right-hand corner. (Also, F11, at least in firefox, makes the browser window full-screen.) Saga of Jenny - S. Sandrigon
The pdfs at scribd are available for download, put on your fancy Amazon kindles & soon other devices. This one isn't downloadable yet, until I iron a few formatting glitches. The other two I put up, as an experiment, I'm selling for ONE DOLLAR (they wouldn't let me sell it for 75¢). Support the cause of illuminated nonsense poetry!
