all hail the artsy fartsy chief of staff (I mean that in the best possible way)

President-elect Obama's Cheif of staff Rahm Emanuel once turned down Joffrey Ballet school to go to none other than Sarah Lawrence College. Does he have an alumni e-mail address? If he has one, maybe I should set up mine, too.

I've been telling people all day - - - here's the full paragraph from the wikipedia:

"When his family lived in Chicago, he attended Bernard Zell Anshe Emet Day School, a Jewish day school. After his family moved to Wilmette, he attended public school: Romona School, Wilmette Junior High School, and New Trier High School. Emanuel was encouraged by his mother to take ballet lessons as a boy and is a graduate of the Evanston School of Ballet. He won a scholarship to the Joffrey Ballet but turned it down to attend Sarah Lawrence College, a liberal arts school with a strong dance program. He graduated from college in 1981, and went on to receive a master's degree in Speech and Communication from Northwestern University in 1985. While still a student at Sarah Lawrence, he joined the congressional campaign of David Robinson of Chicago."

I've also got strong family connections to Wilmette & Evanston, & my cousin (& also my awesome old neighbor) went to New Trier, one of the best high schools in the nation. Emanuel is now a democratic bad cop with old-school Clinton ties, but I can't be happier that a former dancer with liberal arts background has risen to be one of the most powerful men in the country. Is this the highest post ever held by a ballerina? It makes me feel like anyone, even myself, could one day rise to power.
