"Girls Just Wanna Have Fun" - Gold Single mp3 from Friends Around the Campfire - Friends Around the Campfire Special Electric Ukulele Covers EP

FINALLY, a version of the classic Cyndi Lauper 1983 song "Girls Just Want to Have Fun" performed on electric ukulele & synth accordion, recorded into my microphone yesterday. (I just noticed, according to Wikipedia, "Robert Hazard had originally written the song for a man to perform". It was Lauper that rewrote it to become the CLASSIC SONG OF FEMALE OPPRESSION.) I was inspired by David Rawlings' soulful folk version, which he performs with Gillian Welch but I don't think has ever recorded. My summer home-brew ukulele covers project, Friends Around the Campfire - Friends Around the Campfire Special Electric Ukulele Covers EP, underway with its first hit single:

2 AM in a suburban home, a mother waits on the sofa for her nineteen-year-old daughter to come home. The latch is turned quietly, her hair is disheveled & one strap of her top is fallen down off her shoulder. When she sees her mother sitting in her robe, she sighs & starts to walk past her up the stairs. "You got off work at five o'clock. What have you been doing?" The girl rolls her eyes upward, & then cocks her neck diagonally like Mary in a Renaissance painting of the annunciation. "I thought you were going to work on your college application tonight. When are you going to live your life right? Where have you been all night?" The girl responds, "Oh, mother dear, we're not the fortunate ones."
